Small Spaces

Living in small spaces can sometimes feel frustrating and like you can’t make it the nice space you want. In this post, I am going to share some of my own tips and ideas I have discovered living in a small apartment.

  • Start by choosing some colours or ideas/feelings you want as a sort of “theme”, and keep it consistent. This doesn’t mean everything has to match, just that everything flows together and compliments each other.

  • I love the idea of using all the space you have - all the little nooks and crannies. Play around with the space and see how you can make it work. Decide to either use these spots to display something or keep something there or leave it empty. Don’t use it as a temporary place for things because it will just become a clutter spot.

  • Try to always buy things that are nice and this includes everything (this does not mean expensive necessarily!). With small spaces you don’t have room to store things away, so try to buy something that is nice to look at. You’ll end up feeling better about buying it too! To give you an example, if you need a new stapler than instead of buying a cheap plastic one that won’t last very long, buy a nice one that will make your desk look nice and motivate you to be more productive! This is sort of inspired by a book I was reading actually. The author writes about how someone asked her where she hides her ugly stuff at home, and she said she believes that nothing has to be ugly. She says that “rather than grab the first thing I see, I’ll keep an eye out for something old, well-made, and considered in its design and material.” (I’ll link this book down below because I love it & you should go check it out!! :)

  • Tip: two things that always make a room look bigger are white walls and ceiling + mirrors!
